Recently I read Matthew 26:31-35, 69-75 and John 21:15-19. It was about Jesus disciple, Peter, and his promise to die with Jesus if need be. But when the opportunity came to prove His love and commitment, he denied knowing Jesus and afterward wept bitterly due to his failure. I thought about how I fail Jesus; and others have said they realize they fail him every day. How do we handle our feelings of failure? Later, Peter's relationship with Jesus was restored? Do you love me Peter? (Jesus asked 3 times) Peter answered yes, but was grieved thinking Jesus did not trust him. However, Jesus believes Peter will be okay and gives him more chances to show his love by inviting Peter to keep following Him. We may fail Jesus and feel bad. But Jesus trusts us to do better and always encourages us to keep following. He does not give up on us. Remember, it is not duty that empowers our commitment and obedience to Jesus, but His love for us and our love for Him.
